Sponsored by Friends of Iowa Civil Rights, Inc. ("Friends"), an independent non-profit corporation, Iowa's Mosaic Diversity Conference is the premier statewide training and networking opportunity for those interested in human diversity. It offers career development, professional and personal growth, and will provide all participants unique opportunities to learn more about the wealth of diversity that exists in Iowa and strategies to benefit from this diversity in their personal lives, work and communities. An exhibition hall will provide participants the chance to learn more about businesses, organizations, agencies and others who advocate, embrace, and provide products or services related to various aspects of diversity.
The 2009 theme is Rediscovering America: The Inside Journeys which will highlight journeys to and within Iowa. Our keynote speaker, Valarie Kaur, is a third generation Sikh American who created the internationally acclaimed documentary, Divided We Fall. The documentary was triggered by the first hate crime subsequent to 9/11, and deftly explores a journey of remarkable stories of hate, violence, fear and unspeakable loss while examining the question of who counts as an American.
